Abstract
We determine explicitly the irreducible components of the singular locus of any Schubert variety for GL(n)(K), K being an algebraically closed field o f arbitrary characteristic. We also describe the generic singularity along each of them. This was obtained earlier by the author in the covexillary ca se. The main tool used here is the study of certain quasi-resolutions of no n-covexillary Schubert varieties. (C) 2001 Academie des sciences/Editions s cientifiques et medicales Elsevier SAS.
