We present a simple model which allows, us to study the non-classical behav
ior of slowly moving atoms. The atomic motion will be entangled with a sing
le-mode quantized field. This entanglement leads to the violation of a Bell
-type inequality describing the correlations between the field and the atom
ic motion. Moreover, we show that a decaying quantized field selects a cohe
rent atomic motion as long as the two systems are entangled.
