Jpe. Spencer et al., Contrasting influences of glucuronidation and O-methylation of epicatechinon hydrogen peroxide-induced cell death in neurons and fibroblasts, FREE RAD B, 31(9), 2001, pp. 1139-1146
The purpose of this study was to examine the comparative mechanisms by whic
h the dietary form of the flavonoid epicatechin and its predominant in vivo
metabolite, epicatechin glucuronide, influence oxidative stress-induced ce
ll death in fibroblasts and neurons. The results demonstrate the contrastin
g influences of in vivo glucuronidation and methylation on the bioactivity
of epicatechin. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Inc.
