The title reaction was studied in micellar solutions of sodium bis(2-ethylh
exyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) as well as in sodium nitrate and in sodium n-oct
anesulfonate solutions. In all cases, a decrease in the rate constant with
increasing surfactant or salt concentration is observed. These results are
rationalized using both the pseudophase model and the Bronsted equation. Th
e equivalence of these approaches is shown. In the case of micellar solutio
ns, a non-negligible influence of premicellar aggregates is detected. The c
onditions of applicability of these approaches are discussed.
