Abstract
The effect of geometry on elastic stress concentration factors for hollow t ubes with internal projections subjected to axial loading has previously be en investigated by the present authors. In this paper, some previous result s are used to obtain equivalent prediction equations using a statistical mu ltiple linear regression model. The accuracy of this model is measured usin g a 'multiple coefficient of determination', R-2, where 0 less than or equa l to R-2 less than or equal to 1. This coefficient is found to be greater t han or equal to 0.94 for all the cases considered in this study (0.96 in mo st cases), demonstrating the quality of the model fit to the data.
