High-yield synthesis of acetyltrimethylgermane (1) facilitated the synthesi
s of the first germa-beta -diketone, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-2-germa-3,5-heptan
edione (tmghdH; 3), and its Cu(II) complex, Cu(tmghd)(2),(4). Cu(tmghd)(2)
was found to be more volatile than CU(tmhd)(2) (tmhdH = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl
-3,5-heptanedione) by thermogravimetric analysis. X-ray diffraction studies
of Cu(tmghd)(2) showed it to have essentially square planar geometry, with
the Cu atom situated on a center of symmetry.
