Theatre PUR was formed in 1991. Based in the East End of London, the compan
y's work has been directed, produced, and administered on a day-o-day basis
by co-founders LIsa Baraitser and Simon Bayly. Projects to date include Sm
all Talk About Chromosomes (1992/3), Where is Miss Yoko? (1993/4), The Caro
usel Britannico (1994), Place + Target (1995/6) [a word play by Richard For
eman], Euphoria (1997/8), and Running Time (1998/2000). PUR derives from 'p
urim', the Jewish festival traditionally associated with the impromptu perf
ormance of chaotic and fragmentary comic plays. In October 2000 the company
took a break.
