Spin-Peierls lattice fluctuations were studied in the paramagnetic phase of
the antiferromagnetic compound (TMTTF)(2)Br by pulsed electron spin resona
nce spin-lattice relaxation experiment. The relaxation via long-wavelength
acoustic phonons was found to coexist with the relaxation via spin fluctuat
ions. becoming the dominant relaxation mechanism in the temperature interva
l between about 50 K and just above the antiferromagnetic phase transition.
This gives direct evidence on the presence of long-wavelength lattice fluc
tuations in the investigated temperature range.
