E. Tavukcu et al., Pt-196(n,x n yp gamma) reactions using spallation neutrons from E-n=1 to 250 MeV - art. no. 054614, PHYS REV C, 6405(5), 2001, pp. 4614
Neutron-induced reactions on Pt-196 were studied over the neutron energy ra
nge from 1 to 250 MeV. A "white" neutron beam was provided by the spallatio
n neutron source of the Weapons Neutron Research facility at the Los Alamos
Neutron Science Center. The prompt reaction gamma rays were measured with
the large-scale Compton-suppressed Ge spectrometer GEANIE. The incident neu
tron energy was determined by the time-of-flight technique. Excitation func
tions for gamma -ray transitions in Pt-184,Pt-186,Pt-188,Pt-190-196 and Ir-
189,Ir-191,Ir-193 isotopes are compared with enhanced Hauser-Feshbach react
ion modeling, as implemented in the reaction code GNASH. Overall, the model
predictions agree well with the measured gamma -ray yields. Discrepancies
appear, however, due to inadequate discrete-level information in the calcul
ations describing the preequilibrium process.
