Abstract
Hardwood kraft pulp was bleached by several low-AOX sequences, with first-s tage kappa factor 0.20. All sequences employed ClO2 for delignification. so metimes in combination with ozone or chlorine. Brightening was accomplished by ClO2, supplemented in some cases by O-3 or H2O2. The sequences were cha racterized in terms of total ClO2 requirement to reach 89-90% brightness, b leached pulp viscosity, and brightness stability, effluent AOX and COD, and estimated chemical cost.
