Ca. Flemming et al., Novel optical fouling monitor for deposit control - A look at its efficacyin a fine paper mill, PULP PAPER, 102(10), 2001, pp. 53-55
Uncontrolled microbiological growth can lead to significant slime depositio
n. decreased production efficiency, poor product quality, and customer comp
laints. In this paper we present a novel Optical Fooling Monitor (OFM) used
in a fine paper mill in Canada to optimize a deposit control program. The
OEM allowed quantitative comparison of fouling rates on-machine under diffe
rent treatment regimes. Fouling measurements showed good correlation with m
achine runnability and were useful to predict boilouts and facilitate proac
tive adjustments to the program for peak performance.
