C. Pigeon, "The law of Christ" in Galatians-VI,2 (Examining a reinterpretation of Mosaic law in Pauline theology and Christian faith), STUD RELIG, 29(4), 2000, pp. 425-438
In Pauline theology, faith in Jesus Christ leads one to freedom and new lif
e in the Spirit. The practice of the law is no longer a requirement or a me
ans to justification. Yet, in Galatians 6:2, Paul exhorts the members of th
e Christian community in Galatia to carry the burdens of one another in ord
er to fulfil "the law of Christ". Three interpretations of this expression,
which constitutes an "hapax" in the Pauline literature, are proposed and a
nalysed here: the Mosaic law reinterpreted by Christ; the terminology used
by Paul's opponents; an expression equivalent to the commandment of love: "
Lex Christi, Lex Amoris".
