Abstract
The rolling surface with a band containing disjointed white etching layers on a worn railway rail is studied by using X-ray and synchrotron radiation. The structure, texture and the residual stress on the rolling surface of t he rail are determined. The results are discussed with respect to the distr ibution and the evolution of these microstructural parameters. (C) 2001 Els evier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
