Ak. Pathak et al., Studies on alpha(1 -> 5) linked octyl arabinofuranosyl disaccharides for mycobacterial arabinosyl transferase activity, BIO MED CH, 9(12), 2001, pp. 3145-3151
The appearance multi-drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) throug
hout the world has prompted a search for new. safer and more active agents
against tuberculosis. Based on studies of the biosynthesis of mycobacterial
cell wall polysaccharides, octyl 5-O-(alpha -D-arabinofuranosyl)-alpha -D-
arabinofuranoside analogues were synthesized and evaluated as inhibitors fo
r Al. tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium. A cell free assay system has be
en used for the evaluation of these disaccharides as substrates for mycobac
terial arabinosyltransferase activity. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All r
