Seven new species of Mascagnia are descr ibed: M. tomentosa from southern Mexico and Central America; M. arenicola f rom the Guianas; M. riparia, M. tucuruensis, and M. velutina from Brazil; M . boliviana from Bolivia; and M. australis from Argentina and Paraguay. The se novelties were previously included in the "M. sepium-complex," an omnium -gatherum comprising superficially similar yellow-flowered taxa.
