H. Hokotate et al., Pain palliation by percutaneous acetabular osteoplasty for metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma, CARDIO IN R, 24(5), 2001, pp. 346-348
A 68-year-old man with hepatocellular carcinoma and known skeletal metastas
is developed right hip pain and gait disturbance due to an osteolytic metas
tasis in the right acetabulum. This was treated initially with chemoemboliz
ation and radiation therapy. When these procedures proved unsuccessful perc
utaneous injection of acrylic bone cement into the acetabulum was undertake
n. Immediately after this procedure, he obtained sufficient pain relief and
improved walking ability, which continued for 3 months until he died of he
patic insufficiency.
