A solid acid catalyst has been prepared by grafting Boron trifluoride on me
soporous molecular sieve MCM-41 and characterized by XRD and FTIR technique
s. The XRD and FTIR results indicated that the (BF3Et2O)-Et-. interlocks wi
th the silicon groups of MCM-41 surface to form strong solid acid. The soli
d acid catalyst would effectively promote the opening of epichlorohydrin wi
th isobutanol to form 1-isobutoxy-3-chloropropanol, and showed a nice activ
ity and selectivity.
