The obesity epidemic - there is need for health promotion and obesity prevention

In view of the obesity epidemic there is need for therapy as well as public health strategies for health promotion and obesity prevention. Both strate gies are synergistic and none should be applied in isolation. Obesity is no t only an individual problem. It is also a problem of our society. We are a n overweight society which is on the way to a fat society. There is urgent need for a national public health strategy for the prevention of overweight and obesity. Health authorities as well as politicians are asked to suppor t public health strategies creating a supportive environment for making hea lthy choices.
