Abstract
Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules in the endopl asmic reticulum (ER) are in physical association with a number of cofa ctors, including the transporter associated with antigen processing (T AP) and a calcium-binding chaperone. Here, Tim Elliott suggests a mole cular model for the way in which these cofactors could regulate the as sembly and release of newly synthesized MHC class I molecules.
