The present paper is an attempt to bring to the forefront, the views and ex
periences of middle class families, about family violence and the subtle fo
rms in which it is manifested in everyday family life. Primary data from 39
middle class families residing in Baroda city focuses on perceptions and e
xperiences of family violence, its causes, consequences and possible course
of action linking it to democratisation of family within the human rights
perspective.
