Haematology networks, graphical and image databases and telehaematology with new Sysmex instrumentation

In this paper we describe how data arising from different laboratories with in one hospital can be automatically integrated into a haematology database that includes not only the demographic data of patients but also all the h istograms, scattergrams and image data. Three instruments (the XE-2100(TM) haematology analyser, the PD-DPS(TM) work area management system and the LA FIA(TM) image database) are necessary for this and can be obtained from the Sysmex Corporation. With some manual work, information essential for patie nt management (type of disease, chemotherapy protocols) can be included. Th is is the most comprehensive system currently available on the market and a ppears to be invaluable for a number of hospitals engaged in patient care i n haematology and oncology.
