Toward a general model for web-based information systems

Web-based information systems (WIS) are new generation information systems and have recently received considerable attention in systems development. A s yet little research has been reported on the general model for analysis a nd design of WIS. This paper describes an object-oriented model for WIS. Fi ve components that support WIS are discussed. They are: the Web site, busin ess processes, knowledge, the information infrastructure, and software agen ts. These elements are harmonised into a unified object-oriented paradigm. The proposed WIS model extends traditional information systems analysis int o the context of WIS. It could be useful for the development of WIS by orga nisations in pursuing electronic commerce.
