Prolonged neuromuscular block is an anesthetic complication that every anes
thesiologist should understand. This article presents a case of prolonged n
euromuscular block in a renal transplant patient that eras likely due to ps
eudocholinesterase deficiency. The different types of pseudocholinesterase
deficiency and their clinical implications are reviewed. Also discussed are
the workup and other causes for prolonged neuromuscular blockade. (C) 2001
