The development of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons characterized by t
he addition of dichalcogen bridged groups at their peri-positions as n
ovel electron donors of a non-TTF type is described. These compounds h
ave been chiefly designed by structural modifications of the prototypi
cal tetrathiotetracene; that is, by replacement of the skeletal aromat
ic rings and of the bridged chalcogen atoms as well as by the introduc
tion elf alkyl groups. Most of them are superior electron donors able
to form highly conducting molecular complexes.
