This paper discusses the results of theoretical studies of the condensation
of atmospheric moisture on aerosol particles in the region of the mesopaus
e and the process of scattering of solar radiation by dry and hydrated part
icles of various sizes at different altitudes in various regions of the spe
ctrum. The results of the calculations are in satisfactory agreement with t
he corresponding data of an experiment carried out in 1988 on board the Mir
