An approach to bookback segmentation in a bookback image using edge informa
tion is presented. A bookback edge is newly defined as the portion between
two adjacent bookbacks to perform bookback segmentation. The proposed appro
ach consists of three main parts: the detection of the edge points, the det
ection of a possible bookback edge, and the location of the final bookback
edge by averaging the fuzzy bookback edges. The final result is displayed b
y the final bookback edges and the counting number of a bookback region. Ev
en though some slight but acceptable distortions appear in the result, our
experiments confirm the feasibility of the proposed approach.
