Abstract
It is shown that the quasi-two-dimensional character of the electron energy spectrum of a layered conductor results in a large decrease of the absorpt ion of longitudinal sound propagating in a direction normal to the layers i n a quantizing magnetic field. (C) 2001 American Institute of Physics.
