Abstract
The effect of the thermal treatment at 1000 degreesC in air of Li/Ni/MgO sy stem was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. During air calci nations of Li/Ni/MgO system, the formation of a ternary LiyNixMg1-y-xO soli d solution takes place. The presence of Ni3+ ions, as charge-compensating s pecies, allows the incorporation of a high amount of Li+ ions into MgO latt ice without the formation of oxygen vacancies.
