The high-temperature deformation capacity of a multiphase Ni50Al20Fe30 inte
rmetallic compound. displaying dynamic recrystallization (DRX), is explored
in a wide range of testing condition. This intermetallics exhibited superp
lasticity with a maximum elongation as high as 470% at 1023-1253 K and stra
in rates of 1.67 x 10(-4) to 3.34 x 10(-3) s(-1). The superplastic deformat
ion mechanism is proposed to be the grain boundary and phase boundary slidi
ng accommodated by dislocation movement and DRX The superplastic fracture r
esults from the interaction of microcrack and cavities. (C) 2001 Elsevier S
