Abstract
Java is becoming one of the key technologies for mobile phone services. In this paper we present design and implementation of the efficient JAE (Java Application Environment) for mobile phones and the layer-structured flexibl e software platform on which the JAE runs. The efficiency of the JAE means that we implement user interface functionalities of DoJa profile with the n ative tiny window system to achieve good performance of the JAE. The flexib ility of the software platform means that the platform has a layer-structur ed architecture and that applications on it can easily be designed and impl emented regardless of any other applications on it. Some parts of these tec hnologies are applied to the commercial version of the Java mobile phone.
