Proposed shared care protocol between primary and secondary care for the ongoing management of those on anti-dementia medication

Cholinesterase inhibitors have recently been made available for the managem ent of those with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The National Instit ute for Clinical Excellence has limited initial assessment and prescribing to secondary care, but recommended that shared care protocols with primary care need to be developed for ongoing management. We describe a protocol wh ich may be useful as a model for this purpose.
