Abstract
The case of a 43-y-old healthy woman presenting with spontaneous splenic ru pture is reported. The outcome was favourable after splenectomy. Although t he diagnosis of CMV infection was established by serology, PCR and immunost aining, no viral inclusions were observed on spleen sections. The pathophys iology of the lesions was unclear given the multiple interactions of the vi rus with various cell populations, and particularly with the immune system.
