Abstract
The effects of substitution of Ru for Mn in the layered charge ordered mang anites, La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 and LaSr2Mn2O4 have been studied by X-ray diffractio n, magnetization and resistivity measurement techniques. The solubility of Ru in both La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 and LaSr2Mn2O7 is much lower than that observed f or perovskite manganites. For both the charge ordered parent compounds, the substitution of Ru destroys charge ordering (CO), induces ferromagnetic mo ments and improves the magneto-resistive properties.
