Abstract
Although quadrupole mass analyzers represent more than 90% of all inductive ly coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) systems installed worldwide, l imitations in their resolving power has led to the development of high-reso lution. spectrometers based on the double-focusing magnetic-sector design. Part VII of this series on ICP-MS takes a detailed look at this very powerf ul mass separation device, which has found its niche in solving challenging application problems that require excellent detection capability, exceptio nal resolving power, or very high precision.
