This article reviews efforts to understand and develop methods to treat iat
rogenic and spontaneous previable premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). T
he current success rate with the amnio-patch suggests that iatrogenic PPROM
should no longer be viewed as a devastating complication of pregnancy, but
rather as a readily treatable condition. In a select group of patients wit
h spontaneous PPROM there is the potential for developing a surgical techni
que that may successfully graft the defect and allow the integrity of the a
mniotic membrane to be restored.
