Abstract
Two new beta -santalanes, 9-hydroxy-santala-2(14),11-diene and 11-hydroxy-s antala-2(14),8-diene, along with the known beta -photosantalol A and beta - photosantalol B, have been isolated from the liverwort Gack-stroemia decipi ens (Lepidolaenaceae). Furthermore, a recently reported bergamotane derivat ive, (-)-13-hydroxybergamota-2,11-diene, could be identified. The structure s were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy and the scents were characterized by olfactory evaluation. Copyright (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
