O. Pfohl et M. Budich, About "Prediction of phase equilibria for CO2-C2H5OH-H2O system using the SAFT equation of state" by Zhang et al. [Fluid Phase Equilib. 169 (2000) 1-18], FLU PH EQUI, 189(1-2), 2001, pp. 179-185
Zhang et al. [1] presented a prediction of phase equilibria in the CO2-C2H5
OH-H2O system at 308-338 K and 10-17 MPa using a SAFT equation of state (EO
S) with pure-component parameters fitted to pure-component properties and b
inary interaction parameters fitted to equilibria of the binary subsystems
in the same temperature range. Zhang et al. conclude that "compared with th
e earlier works by different authors, for the ternary system CO2-C2H5OH-H2O
, the SAFT EOS seems to be the best both for correlation and for prediction
".
This letter comments on (1) the introduction, (2) the description of SAFT,
(3) the fitting procedure for pure-component parameters, (4) the correlatio
n of binary equilibria, (5) the prediction of ternary equilibria, and (6) t
he conclusions of the original paper. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All ri
