The results of an investigation carried out on the gas composition resultin
g during pack bonding provide the basis for a plasma boronising process usi
ng boron trifluoride as an active gas. The treatment parameters have been o
ptimised for plain-carbon steels and the characteristics of the boronised l
ayers determined. Layers with a depth of 40-50 mum and a hardness of 1500-2
000 HV have been obtained.
