Molar excess volumes, V-ijk(E) and ultrasonic speed U-ijk, of 1,3-dioxolone
(i) + benzene (j) or toluene or + o- and + p-xylene (k) ternary mixtures h
ave been measured by dilatometer and quartz-crystal interferometer as a fun
ction of composition at 298.15K. The measured values of ultrasonic speed ha
ve been employed to evaluate molar excess compressibilities, (K-s(E))(ijk).
The observed data have been analysed in terms of (i) Graph-theoretical app
roach (based on Moelywn-Huggins concept) and (ii) Flory's theory. It has be
en observed that V-ijk(E) and (K-s(E))(ijk) values calculated by Graph appr
oach compare better with their corresponding experimental values than the M
-ijk(E) and (K-s(E))(ijk) values evaluated by Flory theory.
