Abstract
Partial molar volumes of some mineral salts viz; sodium sulphate, potassium sulphate, ammonium sulphate and magnesium sulphate have been determined in binary aqueous solutions of urea (at mole fractions of urea, X-urea = 0.01 0, 0.025, 0.040, 0.055 and 0.070) at different temperatures and mineral sal ts concentrations from the solution density measurements. The data have bee n evaluated by using Masson equation and the obtained parameters have been interpreted in terms of ion-solvent and ion-ion interactions. The partial m olar volumes vary with temperature as a power series of temperature. Struct ure making/breaking capacities of the mineral salts have been inferred from the sign of [partial derivative (2)phi (y)/partial derivativeT(2)](p) Ammo nium sulphate and magnesium sulphate act as structure breakers while sodium sulphate and potassium sulphate act as structure makers/promoters in the p resent system.
