Wave nature of heat propagation in a thin film subjected to an asymmet
rical temperature change on both sides is investigated by solving the
hyperbolic heat conduction equation. Analytical expressions for the te
mperature and heat Aux distributions and numerical results for the tim
e history of heat transfer behavior are obtained. It is disclosed that
in transient heat conduction, a heat pulse is transported as a wave,
which is attenuated in the film, and that non-Fourier heat conduction
is extremely significant within a certain range of film thickness and
time. When a film with smaller value of x(0)/(tau C) is heated on both
side walls, temperature overshoot occurs within a very short period o
