Abstract
The aim of this work was to develop a new and versatile method for welding thermoplastics using microwave energy. A multimode cavity applicator was de veloped including features designed to deliver an even energy density and t o apply weld pressure. A review of possible microwave susceptible implant m aterials was undertaken and results of welding trials using several candida te materials showed that this is a feasible welding technique.
