A method for the determination of Ra-226, Ra-228 and Pb-210 in water sample
s of mining regions by measuring the alpha and beta intensities with the he
lp of a liquid scintillation counter is presented. The high-energy part of
the beta -particle spectrum emitted by Bi-210 is used for the determination
of Pb-210 content in the samples. An attempt is also given to explain the
radioactive disequilibrium between Ra-226 and Pb-210 in the samples investi
gated.
