This paper presents results of investigations concerning NOx, SO2 emissions
during the incineration of char received after raw sewage sludge pyrolysis
in circulating fluidized bed combustors and the concentration of heavy met
als in char and ash.
After sewage sludge pyrolysis three different products were obtained. These
included: oil, gas and char (carbonaceous residues). Char was the one whic
h amount was the greatest. However the analysis of the char showed that it
had low volatile matter content and high ash content. The heating value of
the char is similar to those of the brown coals.
According to such features of char the technique of circulating fluidized b
ed was chosen. Experience obtained from coal combustion in circulating flui
dized bed showed that these systems have several advantages e. g. uniform t
emperature distribution throughout the chamber, low emissions of CO and NOx
. The results of investigations show that char incineration in such conditi
ons offers similar advantages.
