Abstract
Attempted silylation of (2RS,3RS,4RS)-3-hydroxy-2,4-dimethylhexyl acetate 3 gave neither the primary nor the secondary silyl ether, but the stereoisom eric silyl ethers 9 and 10 of the tetrahedral intermediate in the 1,3-trans fer of the acetyl group.
