During a recent biodiversity survey in Djibouti, nineteen small mammal spec
ies were collected, including six bats and three rodents not previously rec
orded from the country. Records of a further three species, based on specim
ens from the zoological collections of the Museum National d'Histoire Natur
elle, Paris, are published for the first time. A second record of Lophiomys
imhausii is included, based on a photograph. The thirty-nine species of In
sectivora, Macroscelidea, Chiroptera, Hyracoidea, and Rodentia now known fr
om the country are listed. Brief descriptions and measurements, where avail
able, of twenty-one species are given together with notes on their distribu
tion, ecological parameters, and conservation status. Previous publications
on the mammal fauna of Djibouti are reviewed.
