A theoretical solution is proposed for the problem of flow through a t
hin orifice plate placed between chambers having large dimensions rela
tive to the orifice diameter. Experimental results were obtained using
molasses having a viscosity of the order of 1000 poise. These results
confirmed the analysis, but Bow was found to be 5-10% less than the t
heoretical value. This is attributed to the finite size of the chamber
s of the apparatus and the finite thickness of the orifice plate. (C)
