Abstract
A method for the preparation of zirconia-toughened mullite using dc plasma is presented. An indigenously developed 50-kW thermal plasma reactor is use d for the preparation of zirconia-toughened mullite using a dissociated zir con and alumina mixture. Both XRb and SEAT studies of the product confirmed the formation of mullite and zirconia. The zirconia grew as equiaxed grain s of uniform size (similar to5 mum) in a mullite matrix.
