Time scales, emission orders and the corresponding fractions of light produ
cts from the light heavy-ion reactions O-16 + B-10 (E-lab = 62.5 MeV) and O
-16 + C-12 (E-lab = 64.0 MeV), have been determined through the utilization
of a technique based on the analysis of the experimental small-angle parti
cle-particle correlations and velocity difference spectra. A three-body tra
jectory Monte Carlo simulation code was used to fit the data and provide th
e quantities of interest. For the case of compound nucleus decay, the resul
ts are consistent with predictions from the standard statistical model and
show that the technique could also be used for the determination of fission
time scales. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
