Abstract
We have studied the electronic instability of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8-y-based heteroj unctions effected by an electric field. The instability has been shown to b e dictated by a change in the number of carriers in the surface depleted la yer under influence of an electrical field to about 10(5) V/cm.
